Mullaney v. Shorestein -- once more.
Oct 01, 2008 - 4:50 PM - by JaxOutLoud
Quote:
Jacksonville general counsel Rick Mullaney filed a blistering court motion this afternoon accusing State Attorney Harry Shorstein of impropriety and bias and demanding his disqualification from an ongoing grand jury probe of cost overruns on the Duval County

A consolidated city, forty years later
Sep 28, 2008 - 6:04 AM - by jbm32206
What I found to be the most compelling and true, is voiced in the last line of the article:
Quote:
Jacksonville residents made a leap of faith Oct. 1, 1968, trading corrupt and ineffectual old leaders for a new city-county government that extended City Hall's

SPAR: becoming a dictatorship
Sep 27, 2008 - 1:16 PM - by jbm32206
Over the past year, there's been an ongoing outcry from many of the Springfield residents who are also members of SPAR. These are some of the reasons for unrest.
  • there's been problems with heavy handed moderating on their forum
  • members have been banned for violating the forum policies, while others have been allowed to continue, even though their posts violate the same rules
  • there have been people temporarily banned, for no specific reason
  • there's been

Hurricane Season is upon us!
Aug 16, 2008 - 5:42 PM - by JaxOutLoud
MIAMI — Florida’s governor declared an emergency for the state Saturday due to the threat of Tropical Storm Fay, which forecasters say could bring hurricane-force winds to the Florida Keys as soon as Monday.

Fay could hit as a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, with winds perhaps reaching more than 100 mph, forecasters said, stressing that it was too early to tell how intense the storm would become. In anticipation, Gov. Charlie Crist declared the emergency to help protect... [Read More]

No Bail Outs!!!
Sep 22, 2008 - 6:56 PM - by Claude91098
It is my own personal opinion, (showing my financial ignorance I suppose), that the government should NOT "bail out" these mega-corporations that, quite simply, SCREWED UP!

This is a nation founded on capitalism. Businesses start and sometimes they FAIL! That's life in the big capitalist city folks! Why in Hell should the taxpayers risk THEIR money to bail out companies that, for whatever reasons, greed, bad decisions...WHATEVER, are now in dire straits??? I say LET... [Read More]

Well, I may be one of the first posters to visit JOL with the new google chrome browser. The beta version became available this afternoon at http://tools.google.com/chrome/intl/en-US/welcome.html

I will try to make this more of a user review than a technical review.

I am an avid Firefox user, and have even managed to figure ways around using IE on even those pages that require it by... [Read More]
Rules for Jax out loud
Sep 01, 2008 - 12:28 PM - by mcsmith2006
Jimmy - I appreciate the rules & guidelines for this site - I find it to be much more intelligent and thought provoking than some of the others I've read. I stubbled upon this site because of the public defender's race, but I continually read the other threads and post. Thank you & the others for keeping this site out of the gutter.
